News: Adventureland closes Raging River ride following fatal drowning

ALTOONA, IA - Adventureland's new owners have closed their Raging River ride permanently because of a fatal drowning that happened on the ride on July 3, 2021, according to We Are Iowa.

An 11 boy died and his brother and father were hurt when their raft overturned and trapped them in the water. The boy's death has not been the only fatality on the Raging River. A 68-year-old male seasonal employee died in 2016 while working on the ride.

The boy's family filed a lawsuit against the former owners of Adventureland in June 2022. They also filed a lawsuit in September 2022 against the state of Iowa.

State officials cited Adventureland in November for over a dozen safety violations.
