PLEASANT HILL, IA - According to WHO 13, a driver fatally collided with a tree on US 65 near mile marker 81 on Saturday.
Witnesses saw a 22-year-old male driving a car north on US 65 at excessive speeds when he strayed off the roadway and slammed into a tree in a ditch. The vehicle then caught on fire.
Rescue crews pronounced the driver and his 25-year-old male passenger dead at the scene.
The Polk County Sheriff's Office is investigating the incident.
