Kevin Rutan
About
Kevin Rutan focuses his practice on workers’ compensation and personal injury litigation, representing individuals who have been injured. He is committed to helping clients navigate difficult circumstances and works diligently to secure fair and meaningful outcomes on their behalf.
Kevin is originally from eastern Iowa and was raised in a working-class family. His father worked as a maintenance mechanic, an experience that shaped Kevin’s appreciation for the challenges faced by hardworking individuals and their families. That perspective continues to influence his practice and his commitment to advocating for injured workers and their rights.
With a broad litigation background, Kevin has handled a wide range of legal matters, including workers’ compensation claims, general negligence, medical malpractice, employment disputes, construction and engineering issues, and contract-related matters. His experience representing both plaintiffs and defendants earlier in his career provides valuable insight into how cases are evaluated and defended, allowing him to anticipate strategies and advocate effectively for his clients. He now exclusively represents plaintiffs and claimants.
Prior to joining Hope Law Firm, Kevin served as Senior Legal Counsel with an insurance company, where he focused on workers’ compensation litigation, so he knows how the insurance companies work and can help you navigate the complexities of your worker's compensation claim. He also practiced at general litigation firms and gained early experience as a student attorney with the Drake Legal Clinic.
Kevin earned his law degree with High Honors from Drake University Law School, graduating in the top 10% of his class and earning membership in the Order of the Coif. He also earned a bachelor's degree from the University of Iowa and is a fan of the Hawkeyes. He enjoys spending time with his wife and his two sons.
