News: Police arrest man for arson for Forest Ave house fire

DES MOINES, IA - According to We Are Iowa, police have arrested a man they believe started a house fire near 17th St and Forest Ave on Tuesday.

A 36-year-old man allegedly broke a no-contact order and set a residence on Forest Ave on fire. The man's 85-year-old grandmother and a 53-year-old man were trapped inside the building.

Firefighters rescued the two people from the house. Rescue crews transported both of them to an area hospital. The man has been treated and released while the grandmother remains in the hospital in critical condition.

Authorities have charged the 36-year-old man with Arson in the First Degree, Possession Of Incendiary Or Explosive Device, and Violation Of A No Contact Order.
