News: Iowa DNR closes down C6-Zero plant

MARENGO, IA - According to KCRG, the Iowa Department of Natural Resources has ordered the C6-Zero plant located at 810 E South St to stop operation following an explosion that injured over ten people on Dec. 8.

The explosion rocked the facility around 11 a.m. Firefighters worked to put out the inferno until 4 a.m. the next day.

Rescue crews transported five people to an area hospital; an unknown number of others were driven to the hospital in private vehicles. Thirty people were inside the plant when the explosion happened.

The DNR said the facility threatens public health and the environment. It also said another fire or explosion is possible because the DNR does not know what chemicals and gasses are in the plant.
